Ideally, this small community is located at approximately 2200 feet above sea level, below the traditional snow line altitude, generally keeping it snow free, and yet, high enough to avoid the winter long Tully fog that often plagues the San Joaquin Valley floor.
Oakhurst serves as a hub for a large number of communities. These include Ahwahnee, Bass Lake, Cathey's Valley, Coarsegold, High Country, Indian Lakes, Lagrange, Mariposa, North Fork, O'Neals, Raymond, Spring Valley, Wishon, Yosemite Lakes Park, and Yosemite National Park.
